Need proof - count the number of pages and white space on a Standard Bank Credit Card statement. Even if you have not even used it in a month. I would guess an average of 4 pages (excluding the envelope), with an average page usage of 50%.
1,629m Adult South Africans have a Personal Credit Card Account (AMPS 09BBA survey). That works out on an average of 6.516m pages of paper (excluding envelope).
If all of the paper was printed on, this could be reduced to 3.258m pages, assuming all banks did the same, I unfortunately am not privy to what other banks do - I welcome other peoples comments on this ;)
If they printed on the back of the page, this could be reduced to 1,629m pages.
E-statements are available on credit card accounts
About a year ago Standard Bank Group introduced e-statements on credit card accounts held in South Africa. To date, just over 16% of account holders have signed up to receive their monthly statements via email. We continue to encourage others to convert to e-statements.
Visit http://bit.ly/aKIM5X if you’d like to get e-statements on your credit card account.
We are always exploring ways of reducing paper usage and towards the end of this year we’ll be implementing a process that will further cut down on paper.
Any further ideas on this topic most welcome as we try to further reduce the impact on the environment.
There is too much whitespace.
There is tons of whitespace on the statements, it could be done on half the number of pages that it currently is. Also, if there is no activity on the account, why bother printing the zero's on a whole page?
That's a very good point...
Not only that, but it should be possible to choose to only receive email statements.
