In Swaziland, Standard Bank has teamed up with the Swazi Observer newspaper to collect shoes for orphaned and vulnerable children.
Why shoes? Because they often play a great role in restoring dignity and pride, which in turn can help children in their learning and development.
Swaziland’s Deputy Senate President, Matoni Gamedze, has donated 10 pairs of shoes towards the campaign, which is fast gaining momentum.
He told the Swazi Observer that Standard Bank and the newspaper are proving a “true example that you are not companies that concentrate only on amassing profits for yourselves, but are equally committed to uplifting the lives of the communities you serve”.
Donations of shoes can be “deposited” at any Standard Bank branch in Swaziland.
Campaign still on

Stanlib and Liberty contribute
Stanlib and Liberty Life (both part of Standard Bank Group) in Swaziland have donated 100 pairs of shoes to the cause.
2 500 pairs of shoes collected for children in need
At the end of the Standard Bank and Swazi Observer newspaper's campaign this week, 2 500 pairs of shoes were collected for Swaziland's children in need.
Reflecting on this, it takes great insight into the actual needs of communities to understand that shoes can be a key to helping restore a child's dignity, and encourage their learning and development.
Well done to all in Swaziland for doing just that.
