Standard Bank has had a long and successful relationship with South African cricket and we’re proud to announce that this relationship has just been extended to include the sponsorship of the 2009 International Cricket Council (ICC) Trophy, which takes place in South Africa from 22 September to 5 October.
We are one of only four local sponsors involved with the event, which is also supported by the ICC’s other commercial partners. Clement Motale, Director of Sponsorships for Standard Bank, said that as a long-term sponsor of the Standard Bank ODI team, we recognised the stature of the ICC Champions Trophy as one of the premier international 50-over contests outside the ICC Cricket World Cup.
“With Proteas currently ranked as the best ODI team in the world, this event is sure to deliver a feast of cricket to South African fans,” Motale added.
South African fans can look forward to an action packed tournament, which will feature only the top eight ranked sides in the world – South Africa, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Teams will be divided into two pools of four, with the top two from each pool progressing to the semi-finals stage.
Tickets for the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 are now on sale and can be bought through www.iccevents.yahoo.com, through Computicket (+2783 915 8000) or directly from Wanderers (+2711 340 1509) and Centurion (+2712 663 1005 ext 7) cricket grounds.
Standard Bank has been a sponsor of limited-overs cricket in South Africa since 1997 and is the official sponsor of the Proteas International limited overs team. Follow us on the following channels:
