Recycle, reward and empower are some of the words that Jacendra Naidoo uses to describe his business.
His business Clothes to Cash exchange or C2Cx was recently named the Business of the week in the Standard Bank and 94. 7 Highveld Stereo’s Business of the week competition.
We took time out to talk to Naidoo about the inspiration behind his business, what drives him and what being named Business of the Week means to him.
Why Clothes to Cash Exchange?
Naidoo’s business specialises in recycling unwanted clothes from schools, the public and companies. They then reward the organisation/person by paying them for the clothes.
Funds raised go to school funds, business Social investment funds or money for people to do as they please. C2Cx in addition donates R2 per kilogram collected to the C2Cx NPO, Life Link Cares.
About being named Business of the week
Being named Business of the Week is a huge honour and previledge for Naidoo. An honour that he has even added on his company website.
“ I appreciate the recognition of our humble effort to make a difference. I hope that this exposure will attract like-minded people (public, Schools and Businesses) to support our programme to empower the poor and help children in need though Life Link Cares.
How he overcome challenges
In this line of work there are bound to be many challenges he has to face. One of his biggest challenge is managing cash flows with private funding as a start-up.
“We have to continue to have a scarcity culture to ensure that the money spent adds direct value to the business and its ultimate goal of empowering the poor,” Naidoo says.
Though he has had challenges the biggest success of this year has been partnering with Crawford schools. A partnership he is happy about.
Going forward Naidoo’s advice to other aspiring business people is to build a business on trust. “Ensure that everything you do adds value to the ultimate goal of the business and its recipients. “
For him the recipe to a successful business is humility, “There’s no place for ego in business,” concludes Naidoo.
